From Mayor Wanda Irish:

I hope all the fathers had a great Father’s Day and you enjoyed it with your loved ones.  It’s great having most of the businesses open for everyone’s enjoyment.  Please patronize our local stores and remember many have to rely on the summer shoppers to survive.  We haven’t exactly had the best weather so far but I feel a change is coming.

The Harrison Chamber of Commerce, once again sponsored the Pig in the Park last Saturday. The event was a huge success and what a beautiful day!  It was wonderful to see all the families enjoying the music, sun and spending time with friends. I visited with the vendors and visitors and everyone had a great time. I was delighted to stop by many of our businesses and noticed merchants beaming smiles as they were busy with customers. We truly live in a great community.

The City Of Harrison has received $6,000 grant money to replace warning and regulatory signs. We will be contributing labor to install the signs and the grant will cover the cost of the signs, posts and hardware.

The City of Harrison also applied for a grant of $50,000 to be used for a Transportation Plan. There were 16 applications received and only 6 were approved including Harrison.  We expect to receive this $50,000 grant money as early as March 2011. CONGRATULATIONS to the City!

The maintenance Department is busy patching the sidewalks by the park. In addition the Harrison City Hall is being painted and repaired.

Again this year, there are 10 beautiful pots of flowers in the park. My husband, Dennis and I personally donated these pots to beautify the City of Harrison. Dennis has put in a drip system so the plants are automatically watered.  This is the third year we have provided the pots and hope you enjoy them as much as we do. In addition Debbie Werley donated plants that will be put in the flower beds at the end of the park.

We are blessed to live in our wonderful city!

I am honored to be your Mayor,

Wanda Irish

VISION STATEMENT:
In the 2009 Comprehensive Plan the Planning and Zoning Commissioners wrote: Harrison, in years to come, will be a community that has growth and change but can clearly maintain its desirable small town quality of life. The city is characterized as a small historic community located on a hillside overlooking a beautiful lake and river. The community senses a feeling of place and identity that goes back to the early 1900's when it was much larger.
  • The city is blessed with a lake at its doorstep. An emphasis is placed on developing lakeshore recreational facilities and activities that capitalize on this asset.
  • The community's housing inventory includes a variety of housing types and age. Many housing units in Harrison are over 50 years old. The community chooses to accept an increase in mixed use (residential and commercial) housing in the downtown area along the Scenic Byway, Highway 97.
  • A strong emphasis is place on the "Trail of Coeur d'Alenes" and new facilities related to its use such as rest rooms, destination and information centers, parking areas, etc.
  • A strong emphasis is placed on providing pedestrian and bicycle paths, walkways and trails that connect the "Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes" to all parts of the city.
  • The city encourages economic development on a scale that is commensurate with its setting and its expansion plans.
  • Our vision is to expand the area of city impact to promote a more diverse economic community while retaining the integrity of the environment and small town atmosphere.
  • Vehicular access, street improvements and parking areas are a top priority for the downtown area to provide access to and from businesses, the trail, the boat dock and other city amenities, and to ease the flow of traffic during special events.
  • Encourage businesses which promote and support a desireable, self-sufficient, stable community
